10 Jun Paul Ecke Jr. Flower Show & Bloomtown TV Episode Behind-The-Scenes
This week the Bloomtown TV crew has been busy! Not only did we shoot a brand new episode (coming soon!), but we traveled across the country to the San Diego County Fair and Flower Show. Here’s a recap:
We ventured out to California for the the Paul Ecke Jr. Flower & Garden Show that features the region’s largest exhibition of award-winning flowers. The San Diego County Fair received 1.5 million visitors annually. Did you know that 67% of these visitors come specifically for the floral portion of the fair?
The hot topic this year was drought resistant plants, due to California’s major drought challenges.
We had a great time visiting demonstrations, viewing competitions on plants, exploring booths, and meeting new people at our own booth.
Upcoming Bloomtown TV Episode:
This week Bloomtown TV decided to film something a little more unusual for our next episode (available to watch in two weeks). We ventured into the world of koi auctioning. The Annual Koi auction is held at Steve and Terry Metzler’s house and raises money for the St Louis Water Gardening Society. Koi ponds are an important part of landscapes to many backyard gardeners. This year they sold a variety of water plants along with about 150 domestic and imported Koi to approximately 100 attendees. We also shot some awesome footage of a serious gardener who installed a train to chug around his own koi pond. We can’t wait to show you this footage in our next episode!
